Course Overview

I. CLASSROOM TOPICS

ARMORED VEHICLES AND SECURITY
A basic definition of security vehicles will be presented, the focus will be on the role armor plays in vehicle security. The performance of your vehicles will be scientifically measured. These findings will be discussed with the students and a report on each vehicle will be delivered to the client. The performance characteristics of your vehicles will be factored into the hands on training portion of the program.

DYNAMICS OF A VEHICLE EMERGENCY
Students will gain an understanding of how armor affects vehicle emergencies, with this knowledge they will be better equipped to develop pro-active and reactive countermeasures to defend against vehicle violence. We will also cover the affect of various rounds on vehicle armor, and how armor affects performance of your vehicles.

VISION AND DRIVING
The relationship of these two is examined. Particular attention is paid to affect that armored glass has on night vision and peripheral vision, their effects on driving, and what drivers can do to compensate.

THE BRAKING AND STEERING RELATIONSHIP
Braking and steering constitute one of the most critical relationships in driving. Armor effects vehicle performance - braking accelerating and emergency maneuver capabilities are all affected by armor. We will outline these changes and what can be done to control them.

ARMORED VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
Caring for the vehicle will increase the life of the vehicle. We will provide an in depth discussion of how armor affects vehicle maintenance. Basics such as tire pressure, shock absorbers, cleaning the armored glass will be carefully reviewed with the students. If not supplied by the manufacture we will produce a vehicle maintenance manual.

PROTECTING AGAINST ROADSIDE BOMBS
What can be done to decrease the possibility of a being a victim of a roadside bomb? For this type of an attempt to be successful certain environmental factors must be in place. There are defensive measures that can be put into place that lower the risk of a roadside bomb. We will discuss how to select the safest route between destinations, how to recognize dangerous areas and develop a danger zone log, and to locate safe havens that can be used in the event of an emergency.

II. HANDS-ON

SLALOM EXERCISE
This is the first step in learning the affect of armor on a vehicle. This exercise teaches drivers how to control the forces acting on the vehicle, and how armor influences the steering function.

BRAKING AND TURNING EXERCISE
In most acts of vehicle violence the driver cannot control the car under heavy braking. This is amplified with the addition of armor. This exercise will show drivers how armor increase braking distance, and how to manage that change.

EVASIVE MANEUVER
Armor and Center of Gravity height have a profound affect on emergency maneuvers. This exercise provides the student with the opportunity to make split second decisions and to quickly maneuver around simulated road hazards. It allows the student to personally participate in and understand the factors involved in evasive maneuvers in an armored vehicle.

BACKING-UP EXERCISE
As with the evasive maneuver armor and center of gravity height have a profound affect on driving in reverse. This exercise provides the students with the opportunity to experience how to properly drive a vehicle in reverse. There is a right way and a wrong way to drive in reverse and this exercise establishes a lasting distinction between the two.

RUN FLAT EXERCISE
Students will drive through various exercises with the tires at zero tire pressure. The objective is to familiarize the student with run flat capabilities.

REACTING TO A VEHICLE VIOLENCE
Students will practice driving into simulated vehicle attacks. Students will be trained to use the skills taught from previous exercises to remove themselves from a violent confrontation. They will learn to use their armored vehicle to its maximum capability.

HAND OUT MATERIAL
We will produce an Armored Car Operations Manual for each vehicle which will include:
" Trouble Shooting Guide
" Routine inspection items
" Monthly armored car inspection report
" Ballistic Standards Familiarization
